More than a dozen Medal of Honor recipients will be honored at halftime of the Cowboys-Giants National Football League game this Sunday, in honor of Veterans' Day.

The Medal of Honor is our nation's highest award for valor in combat.

Britt Slabinski is a National Medal of Honor recipient and retired Master Chief Navy SEAL who serves on the board of the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation.

"The values of the Medal of Honor: citizenship and patriotism, commitment and integrity, courage and sacrifice," said Slabinski, "they offer us a very timely reminder of what unites us as a country. And it comes at a time when it has never been of a greater need to unify us."

The National Medal of Honor Museum is currently under construction in Arlington, Texas, and is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2025.

The Museum's Leadership Institute is already up and running, and has been named to honor philanthropist and businessman Ken Griffin.

The Institute just unveiled a new school program called Character Playbook, sponsored by the NFL.

Chris Cassidy, president and CEO of the National Medal of Honor Museum Foundation, said the goal is to inspire everyday Americans to serve their country.

"This really is all about service," said Cassidy. "That's what makes our nation great. And there are lots of ways people can serve: in the military, first responders, police, fire, nursing, teachers as well."

Congress is set to vote soon on a bill to establish the location of a new monument near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to honor the 3,515 recipients of the National Medal of Honor.

President Abraham Lincoln signed the bill to create the Medal of Honor it in 1861.
