Posiblemente los fideos ramen sean la comida barata favorita de quienes cursan college, pero si se aumentan las colegiaturas en $300 más por año, sería todo lo que podrían comprar algunos estudiantes para comer. Como protesta ante este incremento, cientos de ellos tenrán un evento "Ramen" este viernes en Los Ángeles y San Francisco.

La instructora Larissa Dorman dice que un estudiante de tiempo completo en community college vería la colegiatura subir unos $300 por año, lo que afirma que empujaría a muchos de ellos a dejar sus estudios.

"Sentimos que ya tienen bastantes dificultades para pagar su educación, así que resulta de veras difícil ver que nos recorten más. Soy profesora adjunta, y podría perder mi empleo – y esa es la verdad para muchos de nosotros."

Dorman agrega que es frustrante que el estado gaste más en prisiones que en educación, y que es tiempo de que los ricos paguen su proporción justa de impuestos. El plan presupuestal del Gobernador Jerry Brown incluye someter a votación la idea de extender $12 billones en impuestos temporales. Si la legislatura no lleva la iniciativa a votación, o si es rechazada por los votantes, serán precisos más recortes.

José Rodríguez cursa el "major" en el San Diego Community College. Además de los aumentos a las colegiaturas, teme que no pueda llevar los cursos que necesita para graduarse.

"Creemos que ya está muy difícil para nosotros, pero no tenemos idea de lo que nos espera. En serio, se cerrarían departamentos completos; y en el nivel universitario, vamos a ver un incremento completo, más de lo que vemos hoy, en colegiaturas."

Y para fundamentar vivamente sus argumentos, estos estudiantes inician en Los Ángeles y San Francisco, este viernes, su evento "Ramen" ilustrado nada menos que con $300 de fideos.
