Un reporte reciente que escarba hondo en encuestas de opinión pública, descubre que la conservación del ambiente es tema de preocupación para gran parte de la población latina en los EE.UU, y que los candidatos de la próxima elección intermedia deberían tomar nota.

Dos grupos, Latino Decisions (Decisiones Latinas) y la Hispanic Access Foundation (Fundación Acceso Hispano), revisaron a profundidad nueve encuestas de opinión pública y obtuvieron datos demográficos que muestran que los latinos apoyan abrumadoramente que haya mayores protecciones ambientales, como sería preservar los parques y las tierras públicas.

La presidenta fundadora de la Fundación Acceso Hispano, Maité Arce dice que igual que otras comunidades, los latinos se preocupan por temas como el empleo, cuidados a la salud y educación.

“Pero la diferencia es que esa conservación es definitivamente un tema más uniforme entre la comunidad electora latina.”

Agrega que no sólo quienes hacen las políticas deberían tomar nota de esta faceta del segmento con mayor crecimiento del país, sino que los candidatos postulados también deberían estudiarlo con mucho cuidado.

Arce afirma que la investigación reveló que la contaminación del aire y del agua son preocupaciones especialmente importantes para los votantes latinos, algo que los funcionarios públicos deberían atender.

“Es una oportunidad para que los candidatos realmente inicien un diálogo con sus constituyentes latinos. Realmente es una buena manera de conectarse, porque está claro que la conservación es un tema que interesa a la comunidad latina electora.”

Arce dice que la investigación muestra a que más del 70 por ciento de los electores latinos les preocupa el calentamiento global.
