Líderes sindicales trabajan para garantizar el voto en Nevada

Grupos sindicales se están dispersando por todo el estado para tocar puertas antes de las elecciones de medio término del próximo martes, solicitando a los electores que elijan candidatos que luchen por las familias trabajadoras. Los grupos se manifestaron en Las Vegas el miércoles, y pidieron a los votantes que participen en las elecciones, con la vista puesta en los temas del momento, como los altos precios de los medicamentos y el cuidado infantil asequible. Lee Saunders, Presidente Nacional de la Federación Estadounidense de Empleados Estatales, del Condado y Municipales, dijo que los miembros del sindicato están haciendo su parte para motivar a los votantes.

"Cuando estamos juntos, tomados de la mano, marchando unos con otros, tocando esas puertas, podemos y venceremos. No se equivoque al respecto", expresó Saunders.

Nevada tiene múltiples candidaturas de alto perfil este año. La reñida contienda entre la titular demócrata Catherine Cortez Masto y el exfiscal general republicano del estado Adam Laxalt bien podría dictar el control del Senado de EE. UU. El gobernador demócrata Steve Sisolak se enfrentará al ex alguacil del condado de Clark, Joe Lombardo. Y la carrera por la Secretaría de Estado enfrenta al demócrata Cisco Aguilar contra el republicano Jim Marchant, quien posó con un grupo de falsos electores de Trump en 2020 y sigue afirmando sin pruebas que las últimas elecciones fueron amañadas.

Cassie Charles es Directora de Campaña de Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada. Ella elogió los esfuerzos de la administración de Sisolak por invertir dinero del Plan de Rescate Estadounidense para construir más unidades de viviendas asequibles.

"Ya es hora de hablar sobre la crisis de vivienda y priorizar a las familias trabajadoras. Necesitamos líderes fuertes con antecedentes de clase trabajadora para continuar enfocándose en viviendas asequibles en nuestro estado", añadió además Charles.

Todos los votantes registrados deberían haber recibido su boleta por correo. La votación anticipada en persona también está en marcha y se extenderá hasta el viernes. Nevada también permite que las personas se registren para votar el día de las elecciones.
