35 Years at the Center: Looking Back, Looking Ahead

DENVER - The GLBT Community Center of Colorado turns 35 years old this year - and they're putting on the black tie and rolling out the red carpet. For friends of the Center, it's a time for celebration and reflection.
Colorado Representative Diana DeGette, who is co-chair of the GLBT Caucus in the U.S. House, says there's been a lot of progress in the last 35 years, but still a long ways to go, especially given the current political climate in Washington.
"GLBT equality is the social issue in our day. We've got our coalition strongly together and were fighting hard against any attempts to roll back the progress that we've made."
DeGette will be the featured speaker at the Center's Anniversary Gala later this month, at which the Center will present the Phil Nash Community Activist Award to former Center employee and community activist Michael Brewer.
"He's worked so hard for so many years in the community. You know, I knew Phil Nash many years ago. What a wonderful community activist. And there's no better person to receive this award than Michael Brewer."
The Center's 35th Anniversary celebration will be held September 24.
