PHOENIX – La inscripción abierta anual a Medicare comienza este lunes, antes que en años previos. La AARP insta a los adultos mayores y a sus familias a que revisen con cuidado sus planes vigentes para asegrarse de que estén obteniendo el máximo de su cobertura y también que consideren las opciones disponibles. Cynthia Fagyas, directora de comunicación en la AARP Arizona, dice que la ventana de oportunidad para hacer cambios llegó anticipada este año.

"El 15 de octubre es una fecha temprana para la afiliación abierta, y seguirá hasta el 7 de diciembre. Hay casi 792 mil adultos mayores de Arizona en Medicare, así que es una oportunidad para que revisen y hagan cambios a su cobertura actual."

Durante la afiliación abierta, Fagyas dice que los inscritos en Medicare pueden cambiar de plan, agregar un plan para medicinas de receta o cambiar Medicare Advantage por un plan del Medicare original. Pero agrega que si usted está conforme con su plan actual, no es necesario que haga algo. Explica que la AARP tiene un sitio de internet con información sobre la inscripción abierta a Medicare, en AARP.org/openenrollment..

"También pueden contactar al programa estatal de seguro de la salud, que es la línea roja SHIP de Medicare aquí en Arizona, y les podrán comparar los planes. Y ese número Toll-Free sin costo es el 800-432-4040."

Fagyas dice que hay cuatro factores a considerar al revisar y comparar la cobertura de Medicare. Las llama las cuatro Cs.

"Y esas cuatro Cs son cobertura, costo, conveniencia y cliente satisfecho, cuando piensen hacer cualquier cambio a su cobertura de Medicare."

Fagyas advierte que hay algunas opciones de afiliación abierta que no son reversibles.

"Si no quieres hacer cambios a tu cobertura, y suspendes o bajas la cobertura, debes hacerlo con cuidado, porque tal vez no puedas recuperarla después de hacer el cambio."

La AARP ofrece también seminarios en la red sobre la inscripción abierta a Medicare. Los cambios hechos durante la afiliación abierta tendrán efecto el primero de enero.
