PHOENIX - Llegó la hora de presentar el reporte de impuestos. Ya sea que se haga con un contador, un programa de computadora o personalmente, puede ser un proceso caro y complicado. Pero gracias a la Fundación AARP, a partir del viernes habrá ayuda gratuita disponible en locaciones de todo Arizona. Frank Perazelli, Coordinador del Tax Aide Program (Programa de Ayuda con los Impuestos) en la AARP, dice que los mil doscientos voluntarios certificados por el IRS pueden atender prácticamente cualquier caso.

"Estamos capacitados en el nivel avanzado, que incluye llevarnos a través de ganancias de capital, declaraciones de corretaje. Las únicas cosas que no podemos manejar son propiedades en renta y devoluciones que involucren embargos hipotecarios."

Tanto la preparación como el llenado del reporte de impuestos son gratuitos. Perazelli dice que el servicio se enfoca en primer lugar a gente de bajos ingresos y a mayores de 60 años, pero nadie será rechazado. Hay locaciones en ciudades de todo el estado, incluso en el área metropolitana de Phoenix y en Tucson.

Perazelli agrega que unos lugares aceptan citas, a otros sólo hay que presentarse, y algunos manejan las dos opciones. Dice que debe llevarse cuando menos una copia del reporte del año pasado y cualquier documento de impuestos que se haya recibido por correo.

"En nuestra página de internet, que es AZTax-Aide.org, tenemos una lista de lo que hay que traer. Y también hay un localizador de sitios que, al capturar el ZIP Code, permite encontrar el lugar más ceercano."

Perazelli aclara que el Programa de Ayuda con los Impuestos trata de despertar conciencia sobre el Crédito Fiscal por Ingresos Obtenidos que hay disponible para familias de bajos ingresos con hijos.

"Pueden recibir, con tres hijos, hasta 5,800 dólares de devolución, además de cualquier otra que les corresponda por los impuestos pagados."

Añade que muchos adultos mayores no saben del crédito fiscal de Arizona por propiedades, que puede quitarle 500 dólares a su pago de impuestos. Hay límite de ingresos; hay que ser residente con más de un año, y ser mayor de 65 años.
