OH Farmers: Clearing The Air Pays Off

December 11, 2006

Ottawa, OH - Stop global warming and make money doing it. That's the goal for Ohio farmers who trade carbon credits on the Chicago Climate Exchange, and they can start making money in the new year if they sign up this month.

Joe Logan, with the Ohio Farmers Union, says the program lets farmers make money with farming practices that capture carbon, creating a payoff for all Ohioans.

"We all get a chance to breathe a little easier, and the effects of global climate change could be mitigated to a significant extent. Everybody, as they go through life, looks for opportunities to do well by doing good, and this is one of the best opportunities that we see for farmers at this point."

Logan says carbon credits are available for farmers using no-till production, seeding grassland, reforesting or using methane digesters. Farmers who are interested can register online, at www.nfu.org.
