Helping IA Farmers Explore New Trends

January 12, 2007

Agriculture is evolving at a breakneck pace, and one of the fastest growing segments in agriculture is naturally-raised foods marketed directly to consumers. Susan Jutz, a farmer and president of the Practical Farmers of Iowa says that's just one of the things farmers will be learning at the P.F.I. annual conference this weekend in Des Moines.

"It's farmers networking and helping one another to look at new and innovative practices and figure out how to move in a different direction."

Jutz adds farmers will also learn about the growing market for organic products, and conventional farmers will also pick up many pointers.

"We have conventional farmers who are using alternative practices as well as organic farmers who continue to figure out how to make it more profitable."

Jutz notes farmers curious about ways to diversify their operations will be able to learn what it takes from farmers who've done it.
