Clean Energy-Washington's Next Economic Boom?

March 29, 2007

Clean energy could fuel Washington's next economic boom, according to some of the state's leading venture capitalists. They're testifying before a state Senate committee this week. They say developing a clean energy industry would attract businesses, create jobs and bring millions in additional revenue to the state. Dan Rosen with Dan Rosen and Associates says Washington is poised to reap the benefits.

"There's probably not a corner of the state that couldn't benefit from this economically."

They were testifying on behalf of a bill (SB 6001) that would give utility companies financial incentives to invest in more efficient technologies, set pollution standards for new power purchases, and looks to increase clean energy jobs while reducing imported fuels.

Rosen believes this innovative technology is really a hallmark of what the Northwest economy should be.

"The Northwest is well known for environmental issues. And now is the time to put in place the policy to help the region capitalize on it."
