Cheyenne, WY – New Census numbers show the Equality State is one of the most profitable states for running a business, while workers are failing to share in the prosperity.

Dan Neal, with the Equality State Policy Center, says, while some companies are earning profits, most Wyoming residents are finding their work “doesn’t pay.”

"We still have too many people that are working poor. More than 27 percent of Wyoming residents are at or below 200 percent of poverty. That’s barely enough to get by."

Neal says they’re encouraging the Joint Labor, Health and Social Services Committee to come up with ways to make sure health coverage is available and affordable to all Wyomingites. He says those solutions may include ways to help small businesses offer coverage.

"People that are working for big mineral companies have health insurance, because they get it through their employer. If you’re not in the mineral business, in the leisure and hospitality sector, fewer than 40 percent of employees have that benefit."
