Montanans Roll Up Their Sleeves To Clean Up “Prime Real Estate”
Friday, September 28, 2007
Butte, MT – Putting up new signs, repairing trails, and planting grasses and trees in fire zones. Those are the jobs for hundreds of Montanans this weekend as they clean up some of the state’s prime real estate: public lands. It’s National Public Lands Day tomorrow (Saturday). Brad Borst with the Montana Wilderness Association says Big Sky Country is home to millions of acres of pristine backcountry.
Brad Borst with the Montana Wilderness Association is committed to protecting the millions of acres of pristine wilderness in Big Sky Country.
"As more and more people come to places like Montana, we need to make sure that some of these public lands are set aside to be just the way they are."
Borst says keeping public land healthy takes cooperation from all forest users. One successful program is in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
"It’s about compromise and common sense and realizing there is room enough for everyone to enjoy the National Forest. We can have jobs in the woods, healthy forests and protection for our backcountry traditions."
Montana has eight million acres of roadless forests.
