Bismarck, ND – North Dakota Governor Hoeven and other members of the Midwest Governor's Association are attending an Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Summit in Milwaukee. Jack Breen with the Dakota Resource Council says this is the first time governors from the wind-rich upper Midwest are holding such a meeting, and he sees it as a golden opportunity for North Dakota's Governor to take lead.

"Governor Hoeven should seize the opportunity to be a part of the global warming solution. The right policies could bring fantastic economic opportunities to our state."

Breen says there are many ways to promote renewable energy, including a tax on carbon-producing fuels.

"I would like to see the Governor promote renewable energy sources, and promote requiring a tax or a carbon value on sources of energy."

Breen believes North Dakota has a lot to gain from the summit, and could be a leader when it comes to clean new technologies like wind, solar, biofuels, and energy efficiency.
