Cheyenne, WY – For senior citizens, the "prescription" for getting prescriptions filled smoothly in the coming year is to pay attention. December is the month when Wyomingites in their golden years need to take a look at their Medicare Part D prescription plans.

Loisjean Hallberg, of the Wyoming Senior Health Insurance Information Program, says no one can assume the coverage they purchased last time will work for next year, and the prices may have changed.

"A lot of their plans have changed, so people just have questions on whether or not they should stay with the same plan they had, or if they should change plans."

Hallberg says people concerned about falling into the "doughnut hole" of no coverage should talk to an advisor with her program right away, so they can plan for it.

"There's not a lot out there that's going to cover them through the 'doughnut hole,' except for generics."

She explains anyone who changed medications should make sure they're covered, and those who just turned 65 need to sort through which plan is best for them and sign up for it. The deadline is December 31, although Hallberg says it's best to get the paperwork done by December 19th so existing coverage doesn't lapse.
