NH Producer Compiles Healing Music for Sad Valentines

Hanover, NH - Valentine's Day is coming this week, but it doesn't bring joy to everyone. Some mental health workers say February 14th marks the end of the "blue holiday" season that begins with the pre-Christmas rush. Michael Whitman, of www.Beforetheirtime.org, says it's a particularly difficult time for people who have lost a loved one or experienced a recent breakup.

"If someone has suffered the loss of a romance, this can be an extremely stressful time, because they're acutely aware of being alone when everybody else is celebrating being together."

Whitman is the producer of three CDs of music by national and local artists, dedicated to the memory of people who died young. He calls them a "healing resource" to help people recover from emotional trauma, and believes it's important that people know they're not alone and that resources are available to help with grief and healing. Whitman says a loss in his own family inspired the project.

"Remembering how much music helped me after the loss of our own son, it seemed that the same sort of music might provide comfort and consolation to others."

Whitman's music compilations have recently been added to the resource list of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
