PA Sportsmen Want Candidates to Sharpen Their Aim

April 21, 2008

Philadelphia, PA – Pennsylvania sportsmen say they're still waiting for a "bulls-eye" when it comes to the candidates hunting for the presidential prize along the campaign trail. National Wildlife Federation President Larry Schweiger, who lives in the Keystone state, points out that hunting and fishing bring more than $3 billion and 50,000 jobs to Pennsylvania. He says sportsmen are waiting for their concerns to be noticed.

"Our major concern is that we're not talking about the issue of global warming and how it impacts Pennsylvania's future. Hunters and anglers are seeing changes in their favorite places where they hunt and fish."

According to Schweiger, 80 percent of Pennsylvania hunters surveyed in a recent poll say global warming should be a high priority.

Retired Brodheadsville forester Jim Connor agrees, adding that sportsmen are connected to the land.

"We do have some concern about some of the effects of climate change. Here in Pennsylvania, certainly, anybody out in the forest lands has seen some significant changes over their lifetime."
