Poll Finds Hispanic CA Voters Deeply Concerned About The Environment
Thursday, April 24, 2008
California - When it comes to global warming and the environment, California's Hispanic voters are ready to take action. A first-of-its kind national report finds that 80 percent of Hispanic voters believe energy and environmental issues impact their quality of life.
Oliver Bernstein with the Sierra Club says those polled in its survey also realize they can help protect the environment.
"Hispanic voters see the connection between energy issues and the environment. They realize the impact of those problems result in higher gas prices and energy costs in California and a real need to look toward solutions."
The report also found most Hispanic voters believe that shifting to a new, clean-energy economy could create millions of jobs and improve the environment. Most of those polled expressed a moral obligation to fight global climate change.
"More than 90 percent of the voters feel that it is their duty to take care of God's creation on earth, including rivers and mountains, streams and oceans."
Bernstein believes that one of the most striking findings in the survey was the level of awareness and concern expressed by the American Hispanic community regarding issues of energy, global warming, conservation and nature and their willingness to take action to protect these areas.
