Lansing, MI – Michigan women are receiving a special invitation - to get involved in politics. Shannon Garrett, the Michigan field director for The White House Project, is helping coordinate a women's political training program this week in Lansing. Garrett says the idea behind "Go Run" is to help women find support and direction to increase their involvement at all levels of government.

"With term limits, we're moving people through this political pipeline quickly. So, we need to make sure that there's a diverse pool of women in our political pipeline."

Garrett points out that women hold just 19 percent of the seats in the Michigan House and Senate, despite prominent women holding the Governor's office and one of Michigan's two U.S. Senate seats.

"We are trying to build this network of women helping women win all across the state. Women who are elected officials help mentor each other and mentor the next generation of leaders."

There's still time to get registered and participate in this weekend's "Go Run" program. Information can be found online at www.thewhitehouseproject.org.
