Illinois Baby Boomer “Dream Job” Comes True

June 3, 2008

Chicago, IL – More than 70 percent of baby boomers want to continue working beyond standard retirement age, according to AARP, and many want a new career for their golden years. More than 7,000 people looking for retirement jobs shared their stories in a national contest, and a woman in Chicago is one of six winners. Jenette Guillory has worked as a paralegal for 25 years, and says her "dream job" now is to open a community center in a low-income neighborhood.

She lost her nephew to gun violence two years ago and sees her retirement as an opportunity to help families most in need.

"I would like to see a center that would encompass activities that encourage families to interact more."

Guillory says she's been successful with her career, and feels it's time to share that success.

"I am getting older, and my body is getting weaker. I would love to be able to actually give something back to my community, and offer some services that I think would be very beneficial to families."

One of the prizes Guillory won is personalized career coaching. She's currently scouting locations for the community center.
