Traveling Exhibit in VA Puts the "Art of Surviving" on Display

October 6, 2008

Front Royal, VA - The "Art of Surviving" is on display in Virginia. It's a traveling exhibit that features poetry and art by survivors of sexual violence.

Kate McCord, with the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, says the art created covers a wide range of emotions.

"The artwork exhibits a vast array of feelings such as hopefulness, transformation, healing, anger and, in some cases, joy for coming out of the experience with a new perspective."

Survivors from many different backgrounds created the works on display.

"People who contributed their pieces to us range in age from 19 to 75. They are men and women, military veterans, college students, and great-grandmothers."

Works from survivors are being accepted on an ongoing basis. The exhibit is at the Warren County Council on Domestic Violence through the end of the month. More information can be found at
