Des Moines, IA – For many Iowans, especially those who live in rural areas and pay the lion's share of their own health insurance, a second or third job is the norm. Rising health care and prescription costs get the blame, but Bruce Koeppl with AARP Iowa says the current economic calamity is making matters worse, and time is short for candidates to address it. He says tonight's debate would be an excellent time because undecided voters will be listening.

"We've got surveys that show that the undecided are still waiting to learn more and still hoping to learn about those issues around health care and issues around lifetime financial security."

Keoppl says AARP has been holding a "Break the Gridlock" tour of Iowa communities, and at each stop he says they're hearing the same thing.

"That people are tired, that people are frustrated and people want our elected officials to take action."

He is hoping the remaining days of the campaign will be devoted to making health care a priority. Keoppl says his organization will be closely monitoring the critical first 100 days of the new administration to see how officials handle health care issues.
