Boise, ID – The Gem State is a lot greener heading into the winter season this year. A report from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy ranks Idaho as the most-improved state in the nation in terms of efficiency in response to high prices, energy security, and climate change.

Jessica Ruehrwein with the Sierra Club says Idaho's capital city, in particular, has made progress while working with businesses, educational institutions and citizens.

"Boise has been working really hard on pinpointing recommendations as to where they can make the greatest reductions through transportation and land-use planning."

The report says states are motivated to make improvements in response to high prices, the need for energy security, and climate change, but Ruehrwein believes it will take collaboration to make a difference.

"This is something that everyone should be focused on. It's critical that we as a country find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our homes, our cities, our states and our nation."

Idaho is currently the 13th-most-efficient state in the nation, up from 25th place two years ago. California, Connecticut and Oregon are at the top of the list.
