Una nueva clase de legisladores comenzarán a trabajar en el Capitolio del estado. A ellos se les recordará el record medioambiental de sus antecesores porque hoy se hace pública la "Boleta de Puntuación Ambiental" por parte de la La California League of Conservation Voters (Liga de Votantes por la Conservación de California). Esta boleta anual no partidaria se usa para calificar como el gobernador y los miembros de la legislatura del estado votaron en cuanto a legislaciones clave para el medio ambiente.

David Allgood con la Liga de Votantes por la Conservación de California dice que la calificación de un 60 por ciento del Gobernador Schwarzenegger pudo haber sido mejor si no hubiese vetado una cuenta de ley para reducir la contaminación del aire en los puertos del estado. Sin embargo dice Allgood que obtuvo buenas calificaciones por pasar la cuenta que reformó el uso de tierras públicas.

"Esto hará que se reviertan las prioridades e incentivos para asegurar que se le de atención necesaria a los espacios urbanos existentes y los recursos que necesitan para convertirse en lugares más habitables y más transitables."

Asimismo comenta Allgood que también se sienten optimistas acerca del Presidente-electo Obama y su dedicación al medio ambiente.

"Es un suspiro de aire fresco. El Presidente-electo Obama ha demostrado que es racional, lógico y que trabaja con los hechos. Dada la situación actual mundial no hay otra conclusión más que la que debemos de hacer algo ya con estos problemas y lo tenemos que hacer de ya."

Allgood menciona que aunque los legisladores Demócratas sacaron mejores calificaciones que sus Republicanos opositores, la sesión legislativa del 2008 vio cooperación bipartita con la formación de una camarilla política para Energía, Economía y el Medio Ambiente entre los miembros de la Asamblea de Republicanos.
