Santa Fe – Algunos industriales del estado piensan que tal vez a los legisladores de Nuevo México les quedarán grandes los zapatos cuando lleguen a Washington, sobre todo por la disminución de experiencia legislativa que marcará a esta delegación. Pero esa pérdida de antigüedad se compensará, sin duda, por el refuerzo que significará la postura demócrata robustecida en el Capitolio.

El papel que deben representar es difícil, sobre todo por el retiro del Senador Domeneci y por la reciente elección tan agitada. No hay que olvidar que, de los cinco legisladores que verán por los intereses del Estado, cuatro serán de nuevo ingreso al Congreso. Al comparar los años de experiencia de la actual delegación y la que entrará, hay una diferencia de menos 52 años. Esta disminución, según muchos observadores, harán que el Estado pierda mucha capacidad y poder político en el Capitolio. Este cambio de guardia fue cubierto por Jonathan Kaplan, en un interesante reportaje publicado en el periódico digital NewMexicoIndependent.com. Afirma que el hecho preocupa a varios cabilderos de los que hacen gestiones a favor de algunas industrias pesadas de Nuevo México.

"Ya sabes: que la industria petrolera y gasera tendrán una caída brusca porque los demócratas se enfocarán en combustibles renovables y energía alternativa."

Kaplan dice que aún con la pérdida de la antigüedad, los demócratas de Nuevo México tendrán mucho más voz en Washington ahora que su partido está más firme en el control.

"Ya sabes que los dos últimos años han tenido la mayoría, pero no el control. Eso se vio con el rechazo a la propuesta de rescatar a la industria automotriz."

Mucha de la responsabilidad de velar por los intereses de Nuevo México, asegura Kaplan, ahora caerá en los hombros del Senador Bingaman, quien preside el poderoso Comité de Energía en el Senado. Bingaman sostuvo una audiencia hace poco para revisar los proyectos de inversión en energía tradicional y alternativa, que podrían ser incluidos en un nuevo paquete de estímulo económico.
