El clima frío cubre casi todo el estado de California, los costos de la calefacción suben. El cambio drástico de clima frío en California puede ser un gran problema para las familias de bajos ingresos y aquellos que dependen de un sueldo fijo. El AARP esta lanzando un programa llamado "Operación Ahorro de Energía" que hace un llamado a que los Californianos ayuden a familiares, amigos y vecinos a conservar energía.

Christina Clem del AARP dice que el programa incluye una lista fácil de usar que puede ser bajada del sitio de la organización del Internet.

"Por ejemplo, si le bajamos al termostato en el invierno un 10 porciento, por decir de 74 grados a 67 grados, solo por 8 horas, podemos bajar un 10 porciento del costo de nuestra cuenta de la calefacción."

Clem dice que una economía en la cuál cada centavo cuenta, estos pequeños cambios pueden ahorrarles miles de dólares a los californianos. También menciona que es una buena manera para poder conocer a nuestra comunidad e involucrar a nuestros hijos.

"Durante estas temporadas de fiestas, muchas familias le dan galletas al vecino o hacen cenas comunales. A lo mejor pueden también incorporar compartir esta página del Internet con los vecinos, checar la lista con el vecino con el cuál compartimos las galletas o comida de temporada".
