TN Kids Answer the Call for MLK Day Call to Service

January 19, 2009

Nashville, TN – For many Americans, Martin Luther King Day is a holiday, but since it falls on the eve of Barack Obama's inauguration, the President-elect is calling on all citizens to join him in serving their own communities by making it a day of volunteer service; many organizations are taking the new President up on his challenge.

Samantha Gray, executive director of Attachment Parenting International, says her group is made up almost entirely of volunteers, and they are encouraging their children to volunteer at their sides.

"It's another teaching moment. If nothing else, you are just teaching exactly how you can give back and serve someone else."

According to Gray, in Tennessee the organization has dozens of people working to support positive healthy parenting, and part of that is setting an example that can last a lifetime.

"Children certainly learn that they can contribute by watching their families, and sometimes they even find little opportunities of ways to help, too."

Gray says those wish to make a difference today can go to the Attachment Parenting Web site,, or for volunteer opportunities nationally,
