TN Environmentalists Give Thumbs Up to Stimulus

February 18, 2009

Nashville, TN – Good for the country, good for Tennessee. That's the reaction from environmentalists to the economic stimulus legislation signed into law Tuesday by President Obama. Adam Kolton, the senior director of congressional and federal affairs for the National Wildlife Federation, says Tennessee will benefit.

"You're talking about a bill that will, by some estimates, employ more than 70,000 people in Tennessee alone. We're most excited by the investments in clean energy. "

He is also looking forward to help from some of Tennessee's lawmakers on future efforts to improve the environment.

"The Tennessee congressional delegation is going to play a really important role in this Congress, and Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker are among those who have acknowledged that global warming is a real challenge."

Kolton says Tennesseeans will be put to work under the stimulus legislation, installing solar panels and windmills, greening schools and modernizing the power grid.
