"Go Red" for Her Heart Health on Mother’s Day in North Dakota

April 28, 2009

Bismarck, ND – What if you could give your mom a gift this Mother's Day that wouldn't cost a cent - but might just save her life? The American Heart Association says signing her up for its "Go Red" movement will provide mom with all the tools she needs to improve cardiovascular health.

More than one in five Americans has some form of cardiovascular disease. Joan Enderle with "Go Red North Dakota" says women who join the movement learn that small, everyday choices can make big impacts on health and life.

"After one year, 96 percent of the women actually make a change in their lifestyle or their behaviors to reduce their risk of heart disease. So, it's that monthly reminder, along with the other materials, that really gives women the tools they need."

Signing up also includes a free brochure with heart healthy tips on exercise, nutrition and health, says Enderle.
And mom gets a little gift, as well.

"When you register, you get a 'red dress' pin to wear, that helps remind you each day to take care of your heart."
