Cleveland, OH – From Cleveland to Cincinnati – hundreds of bicycle riders are gearing up for a four-day tour that will cross the state of Ohio. The Pan Ohio Hope Ride covers over 300 scenic miles to raise money for cancer programs, including the American Cancer Society Hope Lodges.

Event co-chair Kathleen Bond says the lodges provide comfortable, free places to stay for cancer patients who need to travel for treatment.

"What a great metaphor to have this bike touring ride, where you are sitting on a bike seat for miles to raise funds to help people who have to travel miles to get lifesaving treatment."

Over a hundred cyclists from around the globe are already signed on for the event, which takes place July 30 - August 2. The goal is to raise $300,000.

Bond says there are life saving treatments that are winning the war on cancer, but the issue of living away from home is one of the greatest barriers that keep some people from receiving those treatments.

"Often they don’t do it because of the costs of the lodging, and the distance from home. They’re intimidated by the fact that they may have to be gone for several weeks, if not months and the lodges alleviate all of that."

Lodges in Cincinnati and Cleveland have saved guests millions of dollars over the past decade, according to the Cancer Society, which also reports cancer survival is increasing, due in part to research conducted in Ohio and elsewhere. More information is available at www.panohiohoperide.org.
