Scottsdale, AZ – New help is available for people experiencing stress caused by the economic downturn. Mental health professionals have created the Live Your Life Well Web site to give people tools to preserve and strengthen their mental health.

Mental Health America of Arizona has created the site, and director Barbara Dawson says the ten tools are fairly simple, but are backed by solid science.

"In our society, we believe there’s got to be a bigger or a better way, and sometimes we get away from the basics. But, when folks can start to implement even one or two of these, and take small, basic steps, they can really make a difference. Research has proven that."

The majority of Americans are experiencing mental stress as a result of the recession, says Dawson.

"The Gallup Healthways Well-Being Index did a lot of the research and, according to them, 58 percent of Americans have reported they were struggling in their lives by the end of 2008."

The site's tools include "Connecting with others," "Taking care of your spirit," "Eat well," and "Get physically active." The tools can have a major impact on mental health, Dawson adds.

"What we put into our bodies and how we treat our bodies, because of each of us have different chemistry, do affect and impact our mental health as well. The tools are based on information gathered from hundreds of research studies with thousands of participants, often conducted over decades, many of which were by researchers at major universities or government agencies."

The final tool is titled, "Get professional help if you need it." All the tools are available at www.liveyourlifewell.org.
