Ohio Small Business Joins Bigshots Interested in a Clean Energy Economy

CINCINNATI, Ohio - An Ohio HVAC and building commissioning company is joining 2,500 other companies from around the nation in supporting Congressional action on clean energy and climate legislation. The American Businesses for Clean Energy (ABCE) coalition, which includes Gap and Warner Bros., is an initiative to demonstrate large and small businesses support federal clean energy and climate legislation for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Steve Melink, president of Melink Corporation in Milford, joined the ABCE coalition because he believes Ohio is poised to become a national leader in the green energy movement. The U.S. needs to step it up, he says, or clean economy jobs will be filled overseas, which he says would be unfortunate, because Ohio could be an industry leader.

"We're centrally-located, we've got a good infrastructure, transportation systems in place, and a good workforce. I think we're poised to become a top-five leader in the country."

Melink moved his HVAC company toward providing energy efficiency services and renewable energy products, which he says has helped to expand business and grow jobs. Now, he wants to see other companies and consumers benefit.

"We've been so lax as a country at addressing our energy problems, and though everyone talks about how we need to become energy independent, there's not a whole lot being done to make that happen, from a strategy standpoint or from a commitment standpoint."

The ABCE coalition promotes clean energy legislation for job creation, revitalizing the economy, and improving air quality. Proposed federal climate legislation is stalled as lawmakers debate the costs that limiting carbon pollution could add to energy used by companies and consumers.
