RICHMOND, Virg. - A Virginia consulting company is joining 2,500 other companies from around the nation in supporting Congressional action on clean energy and climate legislation. The American Businesses for Clean Energy (ABCE) coalition, which includes Gap and Warner Music Group, is an initiative to demonstrate large and small businesses support federal clean energy and climate legislation for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Karl Bren, president of Green Visions Consulting in Richmond, joined the group because he says it's time for federal policies to be on board with what he sees as the future.

"I also support the private sector, understanding this is what we've got to be doing. If you're not doing clean energy, and if you're not making plans to make that part of what you are, then you're going to be left behind."

Among the coalition's stated goals is to increase clean energy manufacturing, which the group says will ensure those jobs don't end up overseas. Bren says he's encouraged by the growing number of Virginia people and businesses already trying to get those improvements in place.

"I'm seeing more and more, particularly smaller businesses, that are purchasing green power from the power company. I also see folks investing in solar panels, and investing in upgrading the energy efficiency in their existing buildings."

The ABCE coalition promotes clean energy legislation for job creation, revitalizing the economy, and improving air quality. Proposed federal climate legislation is stalled as lawmakers debate the costs that limiting carbon pollution could add to energy used by companies and consumers.
