Adolescentes de NM al Congreso: No hay descanso de verano para el clima y economía

ALBUQUERQUE, NM. - Algunos adolescentes de Nuevo México dicen darse cuenta que la economía y el medioambiente no toman vacaciones durante el verano –y por ello han trabajado para organizar un evento en Albuquerque para hacerle saber al Congreso que apoyan crear una economía de energía limpia.

Akilah Sanders-Reed es la coordinadora regional para 1Sky (one-sky), con 15 años de edad ha ayudado a organizar el evento. Comenta que problemas grandes como el cambio climático y el derrame de crudo en el golfo están causando interés en la energía limpia para la próxima generación de NM.

"Vamos a tener problemas más grandes y no queremos heredarlos. Queremos lidiar con estos problemas ahora. Queremos hacer lo que sabemos es lo correcto, limpiarlos y cuidarlo."

Sanders-Reed dice que muchos de los adolescentes de Nuevo México están emocionados del prospecto de tener una carrera en energía limpia.

"Nuevo México es uno de los estados con mayor potencial para energía solar y eólica, y al invertir en ello, habrá empleos de energía limpia para nosotros cuando nos graduemos de la escuela y de la universidad. Al existir esas oportunidades Nuevo México podrá sobresalir y dejar de ser uno de los estados más pobres."

Acompañaran a los adolescentes un panel de veteranos, líderes de comercios de energía limpia y defensores del clima comenzando a las 11:00 a.m. en el Centro Cultural South Broadway. También presentaran más de dos mil quinientas peticiones y postales de constituyentes que quieren tomar acción sobre legislaciones de energía y clima a las oficinas de los Senadores Bingaman y Udall. Estos son temas que el Congreso puede retomar cuando regresen a sesión la próxima semana.
