RALEIGH, N.C. - Jobs are the number one concern for North Carolina seniors in this upcoming midterm election, according to a recent AARP poll. Social security and health care are two other big concerns. All those topics will be up for debate on Monday, Oct. 25, at an election forum at the Peace Center, Raleigh.

AARP North Carolina associate state director for advocacy, Bill Wilson, explains why jobs and the economy have become top-of-mind for people over age 50.

"A lot of seniors are going back to work to supplement their income, and some people are going back to work so they can get health insurance - either to pay for it or to have it provided by an employer."

The election forum will be moderated by veteran TV news anchor, Sam Donaldson. The event is open to the public and starts at 7 p.m.

Funding for programs seniors depend on in North Carolina and state tax reform are other relevant issues likely to be brought up at the forum, according to Wilson.

"We'll take a new look at our revenue system to see whether it is fair. The opportunity to reform our state tax system is one of the things that can come out of this."

Eighty-percent of seniors polled by AARP plan to vote on Nov. 2, compared to 54 percent of voters ages 18 to 49.

This North Carolina Election Forum, along with "Prime Votes: The 2010 Election" content, will be broadcast on Retirement Living TV and will be offered on the TWC Carolina On Demand Channel 1047. In addition to AARP and Time Warner, the event is being sponsored by Retirement Living TV and the North Carolina Center for Voter Education.
