Health Screening Just for North Dakota Women

October 25, 2010

ROLETTE, N.D. - It is important to have a routine health screening, but for many women in rural North Dakota, it's out of the question, because of cost. The Northland Community Health Center, Rolette, is trying to change that. Through the end of this week, the Northland is offering a head-to-toe screening at a cost of only $55.

Northland Director of Patient Services Nikki Medalen says it will cover a whole range of tests.

"It includes an office visit, pap smear, clinical breast exam, blood pressure - basically, it's an overall women's health screening."

In addition to the health screening, women can sign up for the upcoming visit of the mobile mammography van, she says.

"When they come in for their women's health screening, we are inviting them to get on the list right then for the mammogram van that comes in December. We already have 20 people signed up."

For those who are unable to pay the $55 for the screening, Northland has a sliding payment scale that will lower the cost, Medalen adds.
