Super Tuesday: A Game-Changer in Battleground Ohio?

COLUMBUS, Ohio - It's Super Tuesday, and Ohio voters are among those in ten states who will select their choices to be the Republican presidential nominee today. A lot of attention is on battleground Ohio, with its 66 delegates up for grabs.

At the University of Cincinnati, political science assistant professor Patrick Miller says an Ohio win would give a big boost to either frontrunner Mitt Romney or closest rival Rick Santorum, although he's not sure how much momentum the winner will be able to carry past the primary.

"What will probably happen in Ohio is that we'll see lower turnout, and that's just representative of lower enthusiasm this year among Republicans. And will that translate over into lower Republican turnout in the general election? It's difficult to say."

Justin Vaughn, an assistant professor of political science at Cleveland State University, predicts that regardless of the GOP nominee, there will still be a strong fight from the Obama campaign, and Ohio should continue to get a great deal of attention between now and November.

"It's certainly going to be one of the most fought-over states in the election, so there will be lots of candidate appearances, lots of energy at the highest level, and lots of money spent trying to win Ohio votes."

Recent polling shows a close race in Ohio between Romney and Santorum, although Romney has steadily been gaining ground. Other states where voters are heading to polls or caucuses today are Alaska, Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.
