CHEYENNE, Wyo. - A Valentine's Day flash mob is hitting Cheyenne today. About 100 people will dance at the Depot Plaza and then march to the Capitol for a rally. The events are part of One Billion Rising, an international movement calling for an end to the culture of violence against women.

Shelly Montgomery, who is coordinating today's local events, described the point of the rally.

"Here in Wyoming, of course, we're going to be talking about domestic violence, rape and rape culture," she said. "We're going to talk about the fact that we're number 50 in wage inequality in the United States."

The reference to "one billion" comes from the campaign's claim that one billion women - one in three, around the world - will be raped or beaten at some point in their lives.

There will be more action on the topic soon, Mongomery promised.

"It's really just the kicking-off of a movement to not accept the culture of violence against women anymore," she said.

The flash mob performance will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the march to the Capitol. The flash mob will be repeated at 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., with one performance in Spanish.

The song that will be highlighted in the dance, "Break the Chain," is available at https://soundcloud.com. The dance was choreographed by Debbie Allen.
