RENO, Nev. – Northern Nevada residents can help feed the area's hungriest residents through the Food Bank of Northern Nevada's annual Holiday Food Drive season.

The campaign starts with two events this week.

Jocelyn Lantrip, the food bank’s marketing director, says food collected now will feed thousands of hungry children and seniors.

"We are still serving about 93,000 people every single month,” she says. “About 15 percent of those are senior citizens. We have a great number of those people are children. One in four children don't have enough to eat in our area."

Lantrip says last year's campaign collected about 200,000 pounds of food.

She adds the recession, which hit Nevada hard, has created a great need for food donations.

"We've seen a lot more families over the years,” she says. “Even now that some may be back to work but they're not working at the same level that they were before. They may be working part-time."

The two food drives this week are today at 775 Gastropub in Reno, and Wednesday at the Great Basin Brewing Company in Sparks. Both events will be held from 4 until 7 p.m.
