PHOENIX - Many organizations, representing many different points of view and issues, plan to come together for a rally at the State Capitol as the Arizona Legislature convenes today.

Robbie Sherwood, executive director with ProgressNow Arizona, among the groups hosting the event, says the focus is on sending a message to Governor Doug Ducey and lawmakers to focus on the "The Five E's" - Economy, Equality, Education, Elections and the Environment. He says the coalition represents many voices.

"Together, I think we represent hundreds of thousands, if not a majority of Arizonans, in one way or another," says Sherwood. "It's thousands of teachers; it's public workers."

Sherwood says the rally will feature several speakers. Participating groups include Equality Arizona, the Arizona Education Association, the AFL-CIO Arizona, the ACLU of Arizona, Planned Parenthood Arizona and others.

As Gov. Ducey starts his first term in office, Sherwood says he has an opportunity to set a new tone and image for the Grand Canyon State.

"I think Gov. Ducey has a tremendous opportunity to provide a clean slate," says Sherwood. Governor Brewer had a knack for making headlines for some of the wrong reasons - y'know, waving her finger in the face of President Obama."

The rally begins at 10 a.m. at the Rose Garden on the north side of the old State Capitol, at 1700 West Washington Street in Phoenix.
