La Universidad A&M de Texas Recluta para el Programa AmeriCorps

AUSTIN, Texas -- Una Universidad en Texas Panhandle se está asociando en la zona con escuelas medias, colegios comunitarios y otras organizaciones para generar más oportunidades de carreras mediante el programa AmericCorps. La Universidad A&M de Texas dice que la colaboración con AmeriCorps animará a la gente joven a desarrollar destrezas y a seguir adelante para llegar a ser la siguiente generación de líders, en cualquier destreza que elijan.

Laura Seals, administradora de programa en "Access to Success West Texas" (Acceso al Éxito, West Texas), de AmeriCorps, dice que hay una amplia variedad de opciones para participar.

"En un ambiente de colegio comunitario, eso pudiera significar obtener certificaciones que te lleven a una carrera; o hacer el trabajo necesario para el siguiente paso, si vas a una universidad de cuatro años."

Texas A&M recibió un premio de $2 millones de dólares de la "OneStar Foundation" y la "Greater Texas Foundation" para fondear la expansión de AmeriCorps. Un reporte reciente de la "Brookings Institution" hace un llamado al condado para ampliar programas como el AmeriCorps, YouthBuild y cuerpos de conservación en los años próximos.

Brookings propone aumentar la cantidad de puestos de servicio nacional a 600 mil para el 2024, con el fin de ayudar a la recuperación de la nación de la pandemia y para los jóvenes que necesitan trabajo. Seals dice que la capacitación que reciben los participantes a través de AmeriCorps les permitirá servir en los campus de universidad ayudando a los estudiantes a encontrar recursos y mantenerse enfocados en el rumbo a sus planes académicos.

"Habrán hecho mentorías, tutorías, trabajo uno a uno con gente; han desarrollado habilidades de comunicación. Mucho de esa habilidad transferible puede beneficiar a cualquier meta profesional futura."

Si son elegidos para el programa AmeriCorps, los solicitantes recibirán una beca mensual de subsistencia durante el año se servicio. Al final del programa también son elegibles a recibir dinero para pagar la deuda del préstimo estudiantil, o para pagar gastos educativos adicionales en su futuro.
