SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California acaba de cambiar su sistema de rango para acelerar las vacunas de COVID-19 para las personas mayores. El primer nivel de la Fase 1 incluyó a personas en hogares de ancianos y trabajadores de primera línea.

El Nivel '1-B' se ha ampliado para incluir a personas de 65 años o más, además de aquellos que trabajan en educación, cuidado infantil, servicios de emergencia, alimentos y agricultura.

Fred Buzo, director estatal asociado de AARP California, elogia al estado por dar prioridad a los adultos mayores.

"Desde el comienzo de la pandemia, casi el 95% de las muertes por COVID-19 han ocurrido entre personas de 50 anos o mas."

El estado emite pautas en cada nivel, pero cada condado decide cómo asignarlas según la cantidad de vacunas que hayan recibido y la necesidad en esa área. Las personas deben consultar con su propio proveedor de atención médica y condado para determinar cuándo serán elegibles para recibir una vacuna.

Buzo dice que el sitio web de AARP ahora incluye una Guía de distribución de vacunas de California. Es un centro en línea para información de COVID y una serie de tele-ayuntamientos sobre el virus.

"Las cosas estan cambiando tan rapido, y estamos actualizando muy rapidamente. Por lo tanto, se debe consultar con frecuencia."

Añade que la gente debe estar atenta ante las estafas relacionadas con las vacunas. En el condado de Santa Clara, por ejemplo, Buzo dice que bastantes personas han recibido mensajes de texto fraudulentos y que les dicen que hay citas disponibles "debido a un exceso de vacuna," cuando ese no es el caso.
