In-Person Early Voting Continues in NC Until Nov. 5

According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, more than 135,000 voters cast their ballots on the first day of early voting last Thursday.

Marian Lewin, vice president of the North Carolina League of Women Voters, said people who are not registered to vote should bring a driver's license, utility bill, bank statement or other proof of address, in order to do same-day registration and voting during the early voting period.

"If you're not registered to vote, you cannot vote on Election Day," Lewin cautioned. "However, you can go to an early voting site, and you can register to vote and vote on the same day. You just have to have proof of your address."

Residents can go to Vote411.org to see what's on their ballot, find polling locations, and check voting registration. Early voting ends Nov. 5. This Friday, Oct. 28, is National Early Voting Day.

Lewin pointed out over the next two weeks, early-voting polling locations will open up in all North Carolina counties.

"Everybody has an early-voting site during the week and on the last Saturday before the election, Nov. 5," Lewin explained.

Jeanette Senecal, senior director of mission impact for the League of Women Voters of the United States, said people voting early by mail should make sure they place their ballot in the right envelope.

"Because if those pieces are missing, if you haven't signed it in the right place, or you put the ballots in the wrong envelope, your ballot might not get counted," Senecal advised.

She added anyone who has encountered a problem with voting can call the national nonpartisan hotline at 866-OUR VOTE. The deadline to request an absentee ballot in North Carolina is Nov. 1.
