Acuerdo interestatal facilita la mudanza de los maestros

Un acuerdo entre diez estados facilitará la transferencia de las credenciales de los maestros cuando se muden. El compacto de movilidad de maestros interestatales incluye a Oregón y se reunirá este otoño para decidir sobre las calificaciones para el programa. El director de la Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (Comisión de Normas y Prácticas de Maestros de Oregón), Anthony Rosilez, dice que el pacto elimina pasos para los maestros que se mudan entre los estados involucrados.

"Estamos tratando de eliminar algunas de esas barreras procesales que permitirá que la persona pueda venir a Oregón y comenzar a trabajar de inmediato," insistió además Rosilez.

El pacto podría ayudar a aliviar la escasez de maestros en todo el país. Originalmente se inició como una forma de permitir que los cónyuges de militares comenzaran a trabajar más rápidamente después de mudarse. Colorado, Florida, Kentucky y Nevada también están involucrados. La legislación para unirse está pendiente en otros estados, incluido California.

Oregón fue el décimo estado en unirse, lo que activó el pacto. Adam Diersing, del National Center for Interstate Compacts (Centro Nacional para Pactos Interestatales) dentro del Consejo de Gobiernos Estatales, informa que fue un camino difícil en el estado.

"Hubo amplias huelgas legislativas al final de la sesión en Oregón este año, por lo que fue una lucha hasta el final en Oregón," enfatizó el representante de National Center for Interstate Compacts.

Diersing agrega que los partidarios del pacto no afirman que resolverá la escasez de maestros. Pero indica que algunos maestros pueden haber completado sus requisitos educativos décadas antes y no siempre tiene sentido que se capaciten nuevamente cuando se mudan.

"Para muchos, ese costo de tiempo y físico es demasiado para permanecer en la profesión, por lo que esperamos que el pacto de maestros ayude a mantener en la profesión a aquellos que desean continuar," agregó también Diersing.
