WA podría aumentar incentivos para guarderías fuera de horario

Los padres suelen tener dificultades para conseguir cuidado infantil fuera del horario laboral. Los defensores quieren que la Legislatura del estado de Washington aumente los incentivos para que las empresas presten este servicio.

El Departamento de Infancia, Juventud y Familia solicita fondos para aumentar el bono a $500 dólares mensuales para los centros que presten servicios de guardería antes de las 6 de la mañana, después de las 6 de la tarde y los fines de semana.

Alejandra Alarcón es propietaria de tres guarderías de inmersión en español al este de Seattle. Dice que es difícil encontrar gente que trabaje en horarios no tradicionales.

"Gestionar gastos," dice Alarcón, "nóminas y todo lo que necesitamos tener para administrar la guardería y poder dar el servicio que las familias necesitan."

Se espera que los legisladores hagan públicos sus presupuestos la próxima semana. La sesión legislativa termina el 7 de marzo.

Genevieve Stokes, de Child Care Aware of Washington, afirma que los padres que trabajan en la industria de servicios, hospitales o agricultura, por ejemplo, suelen tener dificultades para encontrar guarderías para sus hijos.

"Esto ha hecho que muchos padres se vean obligados a buscar opciones alternativas," agrega Stokes, "que quizá no es su opción preferida si tuvieran una atención de alta calidad."

Stokes afirma que el estado ha invertido mucho en cuidado infantil, pero añade que el sector atraviesa por dificultades, y que las guarderías de tiempo completo cuestan en promedio más que la matrícula de la Universidad de Washington, que supera los $11,000 dólares anuales.

"Estamos en aprietos aquí," señala Stokes. "Los horarios atípicos lo agravan, pero lo cierto es que los proveedores no pueden permitirse prestar los cuidados y los padres no pueden pagar más por ellos."
