Una comisión independiente fijaría el sueldo de los funcionarios electos

Partidarios de una medida electoral que podría establecer una comisión independiente para fijar el salario de los funcionarios electos han lanzado una campaña.

Si se aprueba en noviembre, la Medida 116 establecería la Comisión Independiente de Compensación de Servicios Públicos para decidir los salarios de los funcionarios electos, incluyendo el gobernador, legisladores estatales, jueces y fiscales de distrito.

Robin Ye pertenece a la organización East County Rising, que apoya la medida.

"Se trata de equidad, responsabilidad y transparencia en nuestro gobierno, lo que creo que añadirá fe," dice Ye. "Es una solución de sentido común para devolver el poder a los habitantes de Oregon y proteger nuestra democracia."

Veintidós estados tienen comisiones independientes de retribución, según la Conferencia Nacional de Legislaturas Estatales.

Si se aprueba, la comisión fijaría las retribuciones cada dos años. Los funcionarios o empleados del estado y lobistas registrados no pueden formar parte de la comisión.

La campaña de apoyo a la medida 116 incluye una amplia gama de organizaciones, entre ellas Latino Network Action Fund, Oregon League of Conservation Voters y Oregon Nurses Association.

La medida fue remitida a votación por la Legislatura en 2023, y Ye dice que cuenta con un amplio apoyo.

"Una mayoría de oregonianos y una abrumadora mayoría bipartidista de legisladores entienden que el sistema actual no tiene sentido, no es justo y es un problema," agrega Ye, "y corresponde a los habitantes decidir cuál es la mejor opción para Oregon."

Oregon estableció una comisión de pago independiente en 1983, pero desapareció en el 2000. La comisión se restableció en 2007, vio su financiación recortada en 2008 y fue eliminada nuevamente en 2017.
