Volunteers with the nonpartisan League of Women Voters are gearing up for National Voter Registration Day, September 17.

To register to vote in Arkansas you must be a U.S. citizen, 18-years-old or turning 18 on or before election day, and not be a convicted felon.

President of the Pulaski County League of Women Voters Devita Harden said they are focusing on first time voters, and conducting voter registration drives on high school and college campuses.

"One of the questions that is asked the most is 'will my vote count?'" said Harden. "So, we assure them that their vote will count. You are exercising your right to vote and when you vote - their votes matter."

The deadline to register to vote in the November 5 general election is Monday, October 7.

Harden said getting registered to vote is just the beginning of the process. You need to make a plan to get to the polls and research the issues.

Voter guides are available at The Arkansas Public Policy Panel, the Secretary of State's office, and Pulaski County Election Commission.

She added that if you're a registered voter, now is a good time to check your voter registration status.

"The first thing we ask, at this point, is - is your voter registration up to date?" said Harden. "And most folks say 'I don't know.' We have the QR code where we can go to Voter View and instantly check and they're like - 'well I'm not in there, I don't see,' - so we just go ahead and re-register them."

Volunteers will be at Philander Smith University on National Voter Registration Day September 17. They will partner with LUSH cosmetics in Little Rock on Saturday, September 21 for a voter registration drive.
