El presupuesto del Gobernador ayuda hacia la recuperación de las escuelas de CA

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Las escuelas de California son las triunfantes en el presupuesto acordado por el nuevo gobernador Jerry Brown. El presupuesto que se dió a conocer el jueves incluye $2.7 millones adicionales para la educación

Josué Pechthalt, con la Federación de Maestros de California, dice que por primera vez en muchos años, los presupuestos escolares no recibirán recortes.

"Es un es una gran mejoría, y creo que podemos agradecer a los votantes de California por aprobar la Proposición 30 y con ello declaran que no quieren ver recortes al presupuesto de las escuelas públicas. Este es el resultado tangible de esta
importante elección del pasado noviembre.”

Sin embargo, Pechthalt advierte que los ingresos de la Prop. 30 sólo serán un pedazo del camino hacia la restauración de servicios perdidos.

Una de las propuestas incluidas en el plan del gobernador Brown es la "Fórmula Controlada de Financiamiento Local", que permitiría al estado enfocarse en los estudiantes más necesitados de California. Pechthalt dice que simplificar financiación hacia la educación es una reforma necesaria, pero a la vez debe garantizar equidad.

"Si dicha fórmula termina siendo una superposición sobre la financiación base que ha aumentado para todos, es algo que me parece vale la pena explorar y podría ser algo que apoyamos.”

La propuesta del gobernador también requiere que $1 billón se mantengan en reserva. Brown dice que está determinado evitar el desorden fiscal con el que lidiaron gobernadores pasados.
