NH Residents “Dreaming of a Green Christmas”

November 28, 2007

Manchester, NH – If holiday shopping already has you feeling a little out of balance, consider getting in step with the earth. Environmentalists say this is a perfect time to give a gift of caring for the planet, and they're offering tips on how to have an eco-friendly season.

Environmental groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) are helping consumers have a "green" Christmas with gift ideas that celebrate the season while respecting the earth. Alexandra Kennaugh, a green-living specialist with NRDC, advises moderation.

"Finding a really good balance at this time of year is equally as important as how many presents are under the tree or how many things you're doing for Chanukah."

The NRDC green holiday guide includes ideas like replacing traditional Christmas lights with decorative LEDs and sending e-cards instead of greeting cards printed on paper.

Kennaugh says the holidays are an excellent occasion for sharing a gift of caring for the environment…

"Really, the best benefit you can offer is sharing these values with your kids and your family and friends, with all the people you gather around you during this great time."

The guide is available online, at www.nrdc.org.
