NH Families Plan Saturday Statewide Campout - In Their Own Back Yards
Friday, June 27, 2008
Dublin, NH - Saturday is the Great American Backyard Campout, and families across New Hampshire are taking the opportunity to connect with each other and the natural world around them. The National Wildlife Federation is promoting the night outside to families across the country in an effort to help them get off the couch and gain new appreciation for their local environments.
Melissa DiPalma of Dublin is planning a campout with her husband and their two daughters, aged four and one.
"We love the idea because it's an easy way to start a camping tradition. It's close to home, so we can easily get young kids started."
Several New Hampshire campouts are registered on the Web site, and DiPalma says they're taking place in a variety of locations.
"It doesn't have to be in your backyard, either. You can go to a campground, a municipal or state park, or any place where they allow public camping. Get a group of people together and pitch a tent."
Organizers say the Great American Backyard Campout is a chance for parents to spend time with their children and re-acquaint them with the natural world. More information is available online at www.nwf.org.
