New York, NY — People between ages 18 and 24 may be the most active users of the Internet worldwide, but grandma and grandpa are driving more miles on the Information Highway now than ever before. New York is part of that trend, with 67 percent of Manhattan residents age 40 and over using the Web regularly.

Christine Crosby, New York native and publisher of Grand Magazine, says people age 50 and above are purchasing computers at twice the rate of younger consumers.

"The fastest-growing segment of Internet use today is by people over 50; they are actually on-line more. This is not your grandmother's grandmother, you know. We're pretty hip."

Crosby started Grand Magazine to create a forum for grandparents raising young children. It's a growing group, she says, as Baby Boomers become grandparents.

"The average age of a first-time grandparent in America is 47. Boomers have been well into the grandparent scene for some time, but now we're seeing the real bulk of them hit, because by the time you hit age 60, you are definitely in that grandparent zone."

According to Crosby, with election day fast approaching, grandparents are devouring political blogs. She says one in four political blog readers is age 63 or older.

Grand Magazine published its first on-line digital version this month. A free on-line subscription is available this week at www.grandmagazine.com.
